With kindness and compassion, I strive to build a validating and supportive therapeutic relationship with my clients in a safe environment. Together, we will focus on identifying your inherent strengths, developing your unique path toward achieving your specific goals, and reinforcing your ability to overcome the challenges you are currently facing, so that you can work towards the changes you wish to make in your life.
In my work with individual clients, couples and families, we can explore the ways in which life can seem overwhelming and challenging. We will work collaboratively to understand your life experiences and identify the patterns that cause you to feel stuck and prevent forward movement, while encountering life’s many transitions: young adults launching from home; parents being emotionally fraught by their children’s launching; navigating dating and relationships; entering marriages; struggling with infertility; adjusting to the ever-changing stages of parenting; dealing with separation, divorce and re-marriage; addressing sexual and intimacy needs; experiencing grief and loss; navigating career changes and challenges; facing health issues; aging and elder care; substance abuse and recovery.
In my training as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I completed my internship at a large community agency serving lower Fairfield County, CT. Upon graduation, I stayed on as first a clinician, and eventually, post-licensure, as a supervisor. In my 4 years with that agency, I worked with a diverse population of individuals, couples and families, to help my clients overcome personal struggles, as well as relational and family challenges. I also obtained annual training in a Parenting Education Program, as dictated by Connecticut Judicial Branch in the role of facilitator, in order to provide separating couples with mandated training, to assist in the transition of the family structure from a two-parent to a one-parent household, and to facilitate co-parenting or custody change.
In my work with couples, I often use the Prepare/Enrich program, to help couples gain insight into their strengths and growth areas, in order to actively take concrete steps to improve and strengthen their relationship. I utilize EMDR with individuals who have experienced a traumatic event in the past, which continues to interfere with their current daily functioning. Additionally, I use CBT techniques and mindfulness training to help reduce symptoms of anxiety.
I am licensed in both New York and Connecticut, and have extensive experience as both a therapist and parent educator.
