Are you concerned because your child or adolescent is:
- sad / depressed
- angry / withdrawn
- never happy
- grieving
- highly spirited
- struggling with low self-esteem
- bedwetting
- unable to get out of bed
- always tantrumming / fighting with you, other family members or peers
- seemingly disorganized in their approach to school work
We connect well with children who seem to be carrying an emotional burden well beyond their years. These children may appear sullen, depressed, withdrawn, angry, tough, or combative. And for some, moody, unpredictable, nonresponsive and hard to read mood changes accompany the onset of adolescence. Often, children/adolescents behave in a way that demands negative attention or concern, resulting in exhaustion, frustration and worry for parents and teachers. Many parents feel sad and frustrated when their children have emotional struggles that they cannot help. And some are just plain baffled and genuinely scared about their child’s well being. It is easy to feel that your child has become a complete stranger. Asking for assistance from a professional is a difficult but important step of showing love and faith in your child, and in supporting their growth and happiness.
Help Your Child Heal:
Children often feel enormous relief just from having a place to talk and express their feelings with an adult outside of their family. In therapy, we create a safe space where kids can express themselves verbally, through play or the arts. We also help parents better understand their child’s emotional struggle and collaborate around ways to ease their suffering.
Help Your Adolescent Heal:
We create a safe space for teenagers to feel comfortable and develop enough trust in us to share their inner process. This process is rife with emotional, social, psychological and physical changes and can be quite difficult to navigate in a safe and healthy way. We collaborate with teens and their parents to enhance safety and growth for the whole family.
We have been meeting, playing and talking with young people and their families for over 15 years. We have deep compassion for and understanding of the turbulence and potential of these crucial years, so for us, this is an amazing opportunity to help children and youth find ways to express themselves, giving voice to feelings they weren’t confident they could share.
